Shared container shipping

A shared container for the belongings you are taking.

Taking a smaller load overseas? Shared container shipping lets your belongings travel alongside other shipments in the same container. We'll discuss your inventory, destination and dates with you to see whether it suits your move.

How shared container shipping works

Shared container shipping combines separate consignments in one container. Ask how your belongings will be identified, where consolidation and unloading take place, and who handles each handover. Confirm the proposed departure window and destination delivery arrangements before planning around a date.

Who it suits

A smaller load can make shared shipping worth comparing with a dedicated container. The total quotation, route availability and timing matter alongside the volume.

  • A one or two bedroom home, or the contents of a few rooms.
  • Boxes, personal effects and selected pieces of furniture.
  • Students, first postings abroad and anyone sending part of a household.
  • Moves where the cost matters more than a fixed departure date.

Shared or sole use?

A sole-use container is reserved for one shipment; a shared container carries separate consignments together. Ask us to compare the arrangements available for your inventory and route. Check the total charges, loading location, handling stages and proposed delivery window rather than assuming one option is always cheaper or faster.

What to tell us

List the furniture and estimate the boxes, give both towns and describe access at each property. Photographs or an inventory upload help explain the load. Say which packing help you need. The proposal should identify the assessed volume and the collection, packing, shipping, document handling and delivery tasks included.

Costs and the journey

Read the quotation alongside your inventory. Check volume, packing, collection, destination handling, delivery and any minimum charges. Ask which port, customs or inspection charges are included and which may be payable separately. Our container shipping costs guide gives you a checklist for that discussion.

Your questions answered

How long does a shared container take?

The proposed window depends on the route, consolidation programme and receiving arrangements. Ask for the expected collection, departure and delivery stages, what could change them and how updates will be shared.

Could my belongings get mixed up with someone else's?

Ask how boxes and furniture will be labelled, recorded and accounted for at each handover. Keep a copy of your inventory and ask how to report anything missing or different at delivery.

Can I add a car or pets to a shared container?

Vehicles and pets need separate assessment and arrangements. Use the vehicle enquiry, or tick pet transport in your moving enquiry, so those needs can be considered alongside the household move.
